Mission Impossible: The Gratitude Protocol

I know you already know this, but… gratitude grounds us.

I know you already know this, but… gratitude rewires our brain.

I know you already know this, but… gratitude amplifies joy.

I know you already know this, but… gratitude builds bridges.

I know you already know this, but… gratitude is a rebellion.

As Chartered Psychologist Dr. Julie Smith writes in her book Open When:
"Gratitude as a practice is often dismissed as too simple or insignificant. But it was as easy… there would be much less bitterness and resentment to witness… In the lowest moments, there is always something to be grateful for, but finding it can be difficult."

Yup… alright… got it…
But what am I grateful for?

An Action Epic

The border is quiet, a deceptive calm. Then, without warning—an insult, a breach occurs. The alarm blares, shaking the foundation of the fortress. An invader has crossed the threshold, threatening the peace.

The response is swift, orchestrated, and deadly. Battalions are mobilised, each unit with a unique skillset prepared for this moment. The first responders—the scouts—rush to the site, their mission clear: identify the enemy and signal reinforcements. Their bravery is unmatched. They slow down the intruders until help arrives.

Moments later, the elite forces arrive—the heavy artillery. These are the seasoned warriors trained for destruction. They launch their offensive with ferocity; each strike is measured, and each blow is a calculated step toward victory. The invaders didn’t stand a chance.

But the battle is far from over. As the enemy weakens, the strategists step in, coordinating the final attack, ensuring no foe escapes. The intruders are neutralised, the ground reclaimed, and the peace is restored.

Just as quickly, the focus shifts from war to reconstruction. The builders enter the battlefield to mend and rebuild what was damaged. Under the watchful eyes of the ever-vigilant defenders, they work tirelessly, repairing the breach, fortifying the walls, and ensuring the fortress stands firm once more.

The entire operation—a seamless blend of precision, power, and purpose. A defence so elegant and intricate operates without us even noticing.

But imagine, just for a moment, if one cog in this incredible machine faltered—if one defender hesitated or one healer slacked. The balance would crumble, and the fortress we so often take for granted would fall.

Sounds like a Mission Impossible movie, doesn’t it? Where we’d love to sit back and watch the Handsome Ethan Hunt and the Gorgeous Ilsa Faust fighting the villains to restore order, right? Well, what if I told you this fantastic movie is actually happening within you right now? Unbelievable, right?

This is how our Elegant Defense, our immune system, works tirelessly for us. Like a force within the shadows… training, identifying, and eliminating the bad guys… How cool is that?

What Will I Do?

Actions speak louder than words, so here's my plan to show gratitude for my Elegant Defence.

1.     Sleep like royalty: Every warrior needs rest, and our immune system is no different. Good sleep is the command centre's order for recovery.

2.     Eat like a strategist: Nourishing meals aren't just fuel; they're strategy. Feeding the troops right ensures they’re prepared for any battle.

3.     Move like a scout: Regular exercise keeps the battalions agile, ready to respond swiftly to any threat.

4.     Hydrate like a healer: Water is the lifeblood of the operation, essential for every process in our defence system.

5.     Laugh like a jester: Humor is a surprising ally, boosting morale and resilience within the troops, turning potential defeats into victories.

Conclusion

When I started reading about our systems, I was struck by how intricately balanced and beautifully designed they are. It’s almost unimaginable how every part, every process, works in perfect harmony. This isn't just biology—it's a miracle, a proof of the profound intelligence behind our creation.

God has crafted an Elegant Defence, so masterfully that it operates beyond our awareness, protecting us relentlessly. It’s a system so detailed and delicate, yet strong and steadfast, a miracle we carry within us every single day.

And this is what I’m truly grateful for: the sheer brilliance of God’s creation. As a mark of respect for this incredible gift, I commit to playing my part. I will nurture and maintain my systems, ensuring I don’t strain them unnecessarily.

By doing so, I honour the divine craftsmanship that sustains my life.
